NET NEUTRALITY

I RECENTLY CAME ACROSS THE ISSUE OF NET NEUTRALITY. NET NEUTRALITY IS THE PRINCIPLE THAT ISP’S AND GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES TREAT ALL INTERNET DATA EQUALLY, THE NEUTRAL BASIS RELYING UPON THE LACK OF DISCRIMINATORY CHARGES DEPENDENT ON THE WEBSITE’S PAYMENT TO THEIR ISP. CURRENTLY IN AMERICA, THE FOUNDATION OF INTERNET NEUTRALITY IS BEING BROUGHT INTO QUESTION AND THE FCC RECENTLY RULED ON A ANTI-NET NEUTRALITY DECISION IN WHICH THE INTERNET WILL SOON BE PRIVATIZED. I’M FINDING IT QUITE RIDICULOUS THAT THE FCC IS WANTING TO CHARGE FOR INTERNET “FASTNESS” BUT THEN AGAIN, THAT IS CONGRESS FOR YOU. THE UNINTELLIGENT PART ABOUT IT ALL IS THAT THE CONSUMER AND SMALL BUSINESSES WILL HURT FROM THIS SELECTIVE ISP SERVICE. NOT ONLY WILL THE CONSUMER BE LEFT HELPLESS TO A MONOPOLY OF BUSINESSES, BUT THEIR RIGHTS WILL ALSO BE INFRINGED UPON AS THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH WILL BE LIMITED THROUGH THE SELECTIVE SITES SHOWN BY THE ISPS. THIS SEEMS TO BE A DOMESTIC ISSUE THOUGH, BECAUSE IN PLACES LIKE THE EU, NET NEUTRALITY DOES NOT SEEM TO BE AN PROBLEM AS THE EU IS EVEN LEANING TOWARDS BROADER NET NEUTRALITY LAWS. IN PLACES LIKE RUSSIA, NET NEUTRALITY IS NO LONGER A VIABLE OPTION AS LAWS WERE CREATED SO THAT ISP’S CAN NO LEGALLY LIMIT AN INDIVIDUAL’S INTERNET ACCESS. IN THE WAKE OF THE SNOWDEN ALLEGATIONS, BRAZIL PLEDGED TO FULL NET NEUTRALITY. IN JAPAN AND ISRAEL, NET NEUTRALITY FOR MOBILE BROADBAND HAS BEEN LEGALLY MANDATED. IN CHINA, THERE IS NOT NECESSARILY A PROBLEM WITH NET NEUTRALITY AS THERE IS WITH GOVERNMENT CENSORING. SO, ALL OVER THE WORLD GOVERNMENTS AND THEIR CITIZENS ARE ATTEMPTING TO DEAL WITH THE ISSUE OF NET NEUTRALITY AND I HOPE THAT THE U.S. HEADS IN THE DIRECTION OF THE EU.
